EIA for Proposed Yatimahana Reservoir Project in Maha oya Basin in Mawanella

The Yatimahana reservoir is located in the Kegalle district in the Sabaragamuwa Province within the central hill country. The project spans over 5 Grama Niladhari Divisions (GNDs), named; Kondadeniya, Yatimahana, Muruthawela, Gondiwela and Mahawatta. The proposed Yatimahana Reservoir aims to improve the water availability of Maha Oya basin and is to be developed as a multipurpose project to provide water for domestic and industrial use. In addition, it will provide water for Irrigation and Hydropower generation. The proposed project will accommodate drinking water requirement for four districts; Kegalle, Kurunegala, Puttalam and Gampaha districts. This project is a vital project for the economy as well as for the people in the Maha Oya Basin as it will help to meet the increasing demand for potable and industrial water within the basin in addition to providing irrigation water and generating hydro power for the national grid.
